Kuwait, an overview

Since ancient times, the State of Kuwait has served as the gateway to the Middle East. It lies at the northwest corner of the Arabian Gulf. it is due to this unique geographical location that it became a link between the east and west. This made Kuwait, and specifically its most prominent island Failaka, an anchorage area for trade ships. Within a few decades following the discovery of oil, a nation of fishermen, pearl divers and traders has transformed into a modern and developed country.

Modern day Kuwait has much to offer its visitors. The city is home to a large variety of shopping malls, which serve as the basis of Kuwaiti social life. Famous malls include Marina Mall, the 360 Mall, and its largest yet, The Avenues Mall. The historical landmarks in Kuwait are an embellishment to its modern skyline. these include, the Grand Mosque, Dickson House and the Tareq-Rajab museum. However; of the Kuwaiti landmarks, the Kuwait Towers are the most famous. These are situated on the Arabian Gulf Street and include a restaurant with a breathtaking view in the topmost sphere of the largest tower. The weather of the country is characterized by long, hot and dry summers and short, cool and sometimes rainy winters. The Kuwaiti Dinar (KD) is the official currency, and is equal to about 3.5 U.S. dollars.
